In 2011, Preston retired from NASA after 33 years of service and moved to Downtown Norfolk with his wife, Sherry Carraway. He joined the DNCL Board of Directors as Vice President in 2021 and became DNCL President in 2023. He is also a member of the Festevents Board since 1989, the DNC Board since 2022, and is now serving as the President of the Harbor Heights Owners Association. Interests include boating, biking, snow skiing, traveling and enjoying all that Downtown Norfolk has to offer with family and friends.
